Day at the Beach

 

For my final exam I did a photo story of a day at the beach with my wife, Nicole. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

For the first image I took a picture of the docks on the way to the beach. I wanted to capture the landscape. I used the landscape setting on my camera and used the vivid mode, which worked better with the water.

The second photo I took was of the pier at the beach in which I took another landscape photo with the same setting as the first. I used the rule of thirds with kayakers as well.

For the third photo I took a macro photo of the shells. I just used the vivid setting on the camera with the auto mode. I wanted to center the large shell and some seaweed and driftwood kind of framed it. I did not want to move anything, but I wanted to leave it as Mother Nature had left it.

For the fourth one I took a photo of mine and my wife’s footprints in the sand. I used the Neutral setting for this photo.

For my fifth photo I used the rule of thirds. I also manipulated the photo by adding lomo-ish filter and decreased the brightness by -2 and increased the contrast to +15. Every time I look at this photo it makes me want to go back to the beach.

 For the sixth photo I wanted to make it more enchanting. So I used an orton-ish filter and decreased the brightness by -10 and the contrast to +20. I tried to make it seem as if it was a dream, but if it was there would probably be a Corona in it. I am just kidding.  

For my seventh photo I took of my wife enjoying the sunset. I had her stand a little off center so that she wouldn’t block the reflection of the sunlight in the water, which I thought it looked beautiful. I used the dodge and burn tool because it was a little too dark but I did not want to overdo it.

For the eighth photo I took of myself with a tripod and the timer on the camera. I timed it perfectly so I could catch the kayakers in the distance. I used the rule of thirds for this photo as well. I manipulated it by adding this 1960’s filter I found in Microsoft paint as well as decreasing the brightness by -15 and contrast by +20. I liked how it made the image look vintage, I should have had a surfboard in my hands while playing the Beach Boys to make the photo complete.

For the ninth photo I used an older photo I took of a beautiful sunset when we were on a cruise. Sunsets are not as magical without clouds. I just used the vivid setting on the camera. I did not want to manipulate this photo because I found it was perfect the way it was.

For the last photo I wanted to catch the reflection of the sun glimmering off of the waves as a way to end the story. When you leave the beach you always look back at the water and that’s what I was doing when we were leaving.

 I took a couple of portraits of my wife, Nicole. For the above photo I just wanted her to look slightly off camera and with her sunglasses on you can't really tell if she is or not. I tried to avoid as much of the background as I could without cutting anything off. For the lower photo I wanted to have a very wide angle. I wanted to capture as much of the impressive setting that we were in as I could. I really liked how the photo came out with the sun showering over her.

 

Paint Photo

Well I just wanted to eliminate all of the noise around the guitar so I used the color picker to get the right black level. I then used the paintbrush set to size 75 and 100% opacity to get rid of the vehicle and signs and light to the left. I also played with the filters and I liked the lens flair effect on the photo.

Text Photo

For the text added to this photo I used Harrington Font with dark blue set for the color and the size set to 120. With the photo and text I was trying to entice anyone viewing this to want to do more things in nature and not focus on materialistic things.

Clone Photo

So for this photo I just wanted to remove the fishing pole that’s resting on the tree. I used the stamp at 100% opacity and kept going over it till I removed it without showing to much evidence it is very time consuming especially with the different colors in the background. The water was the hardest part because every inch the color was slightly different but I got it done.

Week 9 Filters

For the first photo that I filtered I added a canvas filter with the depth set to 4. I added HSV Noise Holdness set to 2, Hue to 3, Value set to 10, and Saturation set to 10. I also added a Clothify filter to it. For the second photo I wanted to go with a a little bit of a cartoon look. So I added a cartoon filter with the Mask Radius set to 20 and Percent black set to .300. I added a oil painting filter to help with the cartoon filter with the Mask set to 4.00 and Exponent to 4.00 as well. I also put in a Soft Glow Filter with the Glow Radius at 15.00, Brightness to .50, and Sharpness to .85.

For the first photo, I began by cropping it.  I wanted to focus more on the center of the image. I added a little highlight and adjusted the shadows to put more richness in the colors and tweaked the saturation a little bit. For the second photo I slightly cropped the image. I also added some more color to achieve more of a intense sunset. I also added a little more shadow and tweaked the fill light. I added a loomish effect on it as well.

Well that was a fun assignment. For the first image I took it in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Cafe. I cropped the image and used a infared film mode. I also adjusted the fill light, highlights, and shadow to get the desired effect. I was going for a vintage look which turned out pretty good. For the second image, I took of a flower outside of my home. I cropped it as well and added a loomish and vignette mode. I also tweaked the fill light, shadow and highlights. I was trying to bring more focus to the flower and intesify the color.

This was yet another fun assignment. I tried to get as much variety as I could with the photos. I tried to get as much into the shot as I could so I did not zoom in too much. I really like capturing photos of just nature, my favorite shots are the 2nd and 3rd one from the bottom. I waited for a while to get the kayakers in the shot so that they were positioned closer to the end of the pier.
